Carbis Bay - House
Extension and roof conversion
The main body of the existing 3-storey house is preserved
and only a few adjustments to the openings are made as appropriate
to the internal amended layout. The replacement of the existing
roof with a new timber clad structure with a flat sedum roof
provides the most practicable usable living space without exceeding
the height of the existing. The sedum roof offers additional
green space and creates natural habitat for small animals and
insects. The extension to the rear of the dwelling is an elongation
of the main body of the existing dwelling, which enlarges the
lower ground floor area and provides the upper ground floor
with an enclosed balcony facing the sea. The new fully glazed
facade to the east maximises natural light providing the stunning
view over St Ives Bay.
